Appalachian Forest Offsets directly reward and encourage sustainable forest management. These offsets result from the work done by everyday people to care for their forests. Much of this forestland has been passed down from generation to generation and is at great risk due to the economic pressures faced by these family forest owners. You can help keep forestland in the family and growing for the future.
What’s at stake? Nearly 90% of forestland in our region is privately owned and less than five percent is under any sort of management plan. Appalachian forests are being converted to other uses such as roads, suburban development and mines at alarming rates — averaging over one square mile per week. These forests are among the most diverse on the planet and provide countless ecosystem services locally and globally. See About Our Forests to learn more about the significance of Appalachian forests.
